I know that dieting and weight loss can affect a girls period, from changing the severity of cramps to delaying it from weight loss. If I become vegetarian, but still eat just the same amount, still getting protein from beans, tofu, nuts, etc, and eating fish, fruits, veggies, and grains, will my period be affected?

If you are eating a balanced diet with all essential nutrients you shouldn’t have a problem. Also make sure you eat enough iron which is necessary to prevent anemia.
And to the person who thinks that a period is a way for your body to get rid of "junk" or to detox: you really need to read a book about the female reproduction system, and realize the reason women have periods is to prepare the body for pregnancy. Essentially, if no pregnancy takes place, the body flushes itself to get rid of the unused egg (as well as the uterine lining), and so a period occurs. A period is natural, and humans evolved with it for a reason. So, not so much for ingested detox. Also, most vegans/vegetarians that do not have periods (this is speaking generally and does not apply to all vegans and vegetarians) are undernourished, and do not maintain the body condition to have a period; and in that undernourished state, they could essentially be considered "infertile" since ovulation is not occurring.
As long as you eat healthy, you should be fine. But, if you eat fish, you are not vegetarian.
When I went vegan my periods were more regular and lighter, but that was probably mostly due to my eating healthier. Just so you know, fish is not considered vegetarian as it is an aquatic animal. You’ll get more than enough protein from the other sources you mentioned.
yes youll be crabby on the days you eat vegetables
It shouldnt effect it at all. As stated by others though, vegetarians do not eat fish.
You should be OK. I was fine when I converted to vegetarianism. As long as you eat healthy and make sure you take your vitamin suppliments in the place of meat.
I must mention though, vegetarians do not eat anything living (a fish is a living create) so this doesn’t make you vegetarian I’m afraid.
There is no such thing as semi-vegetarian either. You are or you aren’t, full stop.
Cut out the fish! Join us.
it only made my period a bit more painful.. eating fish doesnt make you a vegetarian
I went vegan and I’m noticing now that my cramps are almost non-existent (I used to practically die every month because of them….)
less bloating too.
so as long as you’re not just eating celery and carrots you’ll be fine…it even might change a bit
A period will become less severe as you eat healthier (more whole plant-food….less meat and junk). Raw-fooders have said their periods have almost disappeared – which gives evidence to the idea that periods are un-natural, and just a way to detox the junk from the body.

It shouldn’t. If you’re getting all of your nutrients, it’s very doubtful. There might be a little change for a month or two, just as there sometimes is after you move, or start a new sport, but it probably won’t make a huge difference. If you DO notice a huge change that lasts more than a month or two, you need to go see your doctor, because something’s not right.
PS- If you become vegetarian, you won’t be eating fish, either.
try to cut down on junk foods, pastas made with white flour, potatoes, white rice and everything made with white flour and sugar.

I became a vegetarian when I was 12 and I had my period when I was 13 so I was basically used to the eating habit then so I didn’t know any different. I don’t think it should affect it severely and if it does it’s nothing to worry about basically because plenty of women become vegetarians during their period. I’m not saying it won’t happen because it changes your body, but don’t spend a lot of time worrying about it but keep it in your head and say if my period changes it’s because of my new eating habits. Weight loss will not be so bad because your eating healthier remember? Being a vegetarian isn’t about eating mainly junk food or not having meat it’s also about having a healthier lifestlye.
Good for you on becoming vegetarian!(:
As for your question, yes it can but it’s very rare that i actually does. It probably won’t, but for me it did. I used to only have my period like only every four months, but my body adapted to my vegetarian diet and it’s back to normal.
Don’t listen to these vegan idiots. Any big change in diet is going to affect your period and practically every other aspect of your health as well. These people claim to be healthy, but they are lying. KEEP THE FISH! Even if you eat no other animal products, do NOT give up fish and dairy! Your life may depend on it!

Read these. These are true life accounts of the health "benefits" caused by veganism.
Well I have been vegetarian for only 3 months and I do notice a change in my period, but I wouldn’t make vegetarianism the reason because of stress and I am guilty of not taking vitamins like I should. Make sure you look into wheat meat as well and they do have vegan shrimp and crab, maybe even fish at places like Whole Foods. Stay loyal to your vitamins and eliminate stress as much as you can to insure your good health!
