Will becoming a vegan or vegetarian make me lose weight?

It suddenly just came to me. With vegans for instant meat, eggs and stuff like that would contain a lot of fat so by not eating anything with eggs and meat etc you’d reduce what fat you had in your system. Vegetatarians pretty much the same thing excpet you’d still eat eggs and stuff just not the meat. Tema it with exercise of course. Would this help me to lose weight? I know it sounds stupid but it sounds all the more well obvious now that I come ot think of it.

    Depends upon what you eat.

Be it vegetarian or vegan – if you eat nothing but alot of junk – don’t exercise – you are not going to lose weight.

If a person sits around all day – be it eating regular ice cream or Oh So Delicious – and does nothing – they are not going to lose weight.

If a person sits around all day and eats chips and does nothing – they are not going to lose weight.

Your body needs a certain amount of fat – or you will find out when – - err – going to the restroom WHY you need a certain amount of fat…. You want to eat the ‘good’ kinds of fat vs. the ‘bad’.

So putting exercise in with what your looking at – would be a good way to go. Just make sure that you get a varied and well balanced diet and you should be ok.

Here’s how it goes; for every 2000 calories which you burn, greater than you take in, you loose 1 pound.

You can burn more (exercise) or eat fewer calories (diet) or a combination of both. Both is best.

Vegan or Vegetarian is good so long as you eat good sources of proteins and carbs in conjunction with some exercise everyday.

Not necessarily. I’ve known quite a few vegans and vegetarians that were overweight- you’re still eating carbs and fats, just in different foods(skipping the big mac and eating 2 large fries instead doesn’t really help anyone…). And if you’re just cutting out these things to lose weight, chances are you’re not going to balance your diet properly and end up with deficiencies (anemia, etc). If you want to go vegetarian, go for it, but realize that you have to make sure you’re eating a properly balanced diet. But don’t assume it will be a magic answer for weight loss-you really need to examine your whole diet for calories and fat and use that as your guide to lose weight.

When I was a vegetarian, I lost about 10+ pounds, which got me looking too thin so I started eating meat again. I generally avoid meat and eat it only now and again – a few evenings a week I will use it, but more often than not I will make a vegetarian meal.

I guess it depends on how you do it. Being a vegan could definitely help you lose weight. But, when I was a vegetarian I ate eggs and milk. Because I was tempted to eat a lot of cheese, I never lost any weight. It all depends on how healthy you want to eat.
