Will a vegetarian diet help me lose weight?

I’m trying to get into shape for the summer.
I eat meat everyday, and I’m wondering if I stick to a vegetarian diet for a while it will help me lose some weight.

Yes and no. A vegetarian diet is much healthier than a diet that includes meat. Vegetarians, statistically speaking, have much lower incidences of cancer and cardiovascular diseases…
But, as with any diet, it depends upon your food choices. Whether or not you go veg, eat smaller, more well-rounded meals more often. For example, eat five half-portioned meals throughout the day, and make sure to include a multivitamin, as vegetarians get insufficient amounts of vitamin B-12.
For weight loss, you really must include at least 30 minutes of exercise per day.
Vegetarianism itself will be responsible for you losing probably 5 to 10 pounds overall (without exercise), and that’s about it.
Something to keep in mind is that if you are planning on eating vegetarian only temporarily, beware of the transition back to meat. Don’t plan on having a giant steak after you have lost the weight you wish to lose; transition back to meat slowly. Vegetarians who turn back to meat often have some pretty intense gastric pain and other digestive problems at first.
No matter what you decide, good luck!

it depends on how many calories you take in. If you are talking about eating a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, then yes it can help. If your idea of a vegetarian diet is to eat everything in site that is not meat (candy, chips, sugared soda, donuts etc) then no it wont.

Most likely, yes, but giving up meat is really hard, so don’t do it unless you’re passionate about it (I love meat way too much to let it go). If you just want the health benefits, just try limiting your meat portions, eat more soy products, and try more protein foods (like peanuts or beans).
