Edit: PsychoCola, I completely accept your apology. Sometimes I blow my cool a whole lot worse than you did. Recently, greenghost, in answer to one of your questions, bragged about how he single-handedly got my account suspended. I mentioned his name in something I had written, which was completely unoffensive, in defense of what he had said, and what I had written was immediately deleted. It's not much fun participating on a site when you know a bunch of fanatics think they own it and are ready to pounce on you just because they do not like your opinions.

I oftentimes disagree with another person's opinion, but I will never tell or force a person to shut up merely for expression of that opinion of which I disagree.

Seriously, I think it's a sign of the maturity of the person who answered the question. Everyone gets joke responses to alot of their questions here regardless of being a vegetarian or not.

It's usually immature people who are making jokes about people who are different or things they don't understand or don't want to bother to learn about.

Probably because being strictly vegetarian is not the norm for homo sapiens sapiens. As a species, we have always been omnivorous. People love to have fun with/about others who do not fit the norm, be they vegetarians, gay, nerdy or whatever. Such people are, of course, themselves comic for their bigotry!

ya ur rite…thats TOATALLY rude! i mean wuts wrong w/ bein a vegetarian orvegan??? theres nothing wrong with caring for and loving mother nature. i would be a vegeatrian if i had the ammount of determination vegetarians do. i LOVE animals and i think that its sad that a cow has to be killed to have a PERFECT burger. ( im not a big fan of vegetarian burgers) actually i root for vegetarians!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted a question for a good vegan recipe,and it was in the vegan and vegetarian section,one person said:

"Ask Bugs Bunny"

WTF?my question was in the vegan and vegetarian section,not the general food and drink category.

Anyone who's not what society considers the norm is apt to be the butt of humor. Most people are indoctrinated from the time that they're little that meat-eating is the only way to live.

So when they're faced with someone who doesn't think the way that they do, they tend to get nervous or defensive. Either way, they try to defuse their uneasiness with humor.

I guess it's marginally better than those who come to this forum with the intent to insult and belittle. But even so, the 8th or 9th repetition of "Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?" every week gets old. REAL old, real fast.

And as for the people who give non-vegetarian recipes, that one beats the heck out of me. Do they think that we'll cave in and try their "delicious" recipe in hopes that we'll go back to eating meat?

Or do they just not understand that being a vegetarian doesn't mean just eating a lot of vegetables along with meat? I don't get what's with that.

Because they're afraid of what they don't understand or don't want to understand, and use a very weak or sick humour as an ill-fated attempt to conceal that fear.

(There's at least one asian fusion restaurant in my city that classifies a dish as vegetarian if it's free of egg but still contains fish and/or shellfish!)

I don't find these answers funny at all, I find them totally stupid, but I know what you mean.

Ever notice that they're always the first few replies too? I swear, same thing happens in Religion & Spirituality, take a look to see what I mean. I call them "hip shots" since they're basically instant sarcasm. It shows the maturity level of some people…… maturity level, or lack thereof. Har de har har.

they just know that this is the way we should eat, not all vegetarians but you know healthy, I am working my way there at 51 and feel pretty good sorry I dont know any recipes yet:]
