Why do people become vegetarian/vegans?

Was just talking to my roommate about vegetarian and vegans the other day and was just wondering why is it people become decide to stop eating meat. Is it for health reasons? or animal rights? Was just interested so i wanted to get other peoples opinion on this. (Note dont have anything against them was just curious as it really is an interesting topic)

I never enjoyed meat that much and gradually stopped eating it. I also saw cattle being shipped in a truck and could smell and feel their fear at what was coming for them. Also, I see chickens being transported in trucks alive too. Sometimes a chicken will be sucked through the slats and blown onto the highway. When it happens in front of your car, you lose your taste for meat.

It is also not healthy to eat animals who have been traumatized this way and this is the American mass produced meat practices.

I feel better not eating animals. I DO eat fish or seafood once in a while, say every 3rd month, when I start to feel weak.

Why does everyone keep asking the same damn question every 30 min? Beh.

We all become vegans for personal reasons. I’m not b/c not only is meat slowly digested, but I don’t like all the hormones/pesticides/antibodies and the way they treat the animals so you guys can eat meat.

well heres a reason i am now on chicken and shell fish: i just recently heard from a butcher that the beef, pork, etc has worms in it. now when they freeze you would assume the worms died right? wrong when it defrost the worms are still alive and start crawing all through the meat again. now you would think that the butcher would something about it right? NOT LIKELY they just shake it off and pray there all gone. don’t believe me , then look it up for yourself. oh i forgot chicken: if it’s not free ranged, the chicken are actually in cages stacked on to of each other. the top chickens are fed while the bottom chicken eat the top chicken crap!!!!!!! Nasty ain’t it?… now do you understand a lil

Well I’m not, because almost all of the health reasons for it are false or misleading.

I think many do it because they are over-sensitised and completely detached from the act of killing. When they are young they often don’t realise that an animal has to die for meat, so it’s a shock when they grow up and realise what happens.

Well I stopped because I refuse to support the meat industry, and since its possible to live without meat, why kill things for your pleasure. Our ancestors had to eat meat but we dont. The health benifits were just an extra bonus.

    i quit for three reasons
    1)the treatment of animals
2)its healthier and gives you more energy
3)because meat in my opinion tastes bad

different people have different reasons but those are mine.
