I’m writing a paper on the health and environmental benefits of vegetarianism/veganism. I need help on thinking of topics that I can talk about in my paper. Help? What all should I include? I’ve got a pretty good idea about what I want to talk about…

Animals are the enviroment, point that out.
Maybe put in the definition of vegetarian, people still struggle with that.
Animals not dieing? Healthy?
Health = lower chance of: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, heart attack, cancer (colon, prostate, etc.) You could also mention that the antibiotics and such given to the animals supports diseases that are becoming immune to the antibiotics.
Environment = less water is used by vegetarians than meat-eaters, meat-eaters create a lot of animal waste, vegetarians help support less wasted land for growing animal feed and for grazing/factory farm land, meat-eating supports global warming via methane
Hope that helps. Good luck on your paper.
that is so cool, I just wrote an English paper on vegans.
health, environment, IQ- vegs usually have higher ones, better economy, world hunger would be eliminated if meat didn’t exist, how animals would not become over populated… that should start you off
You could talk about De Vinci’s quote "time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men."
This quote states that humans think of animals as food, therefore they kill them for food, but humans do not think the same about other humans, they are not food, they are friends. Get thrown away in jail for the murder of a human but get a meal from the murder of and animal.
most diseases are from animals. for example mad cow, controversy that the current swine flu came from pigs
You can demonstrate that a vegetarian diet can be a very healthy one. But I urge you not to repeat popular but unsubstantiated myths about its health benefits, some of which have been repeated here.
Diabetes is NOT caused by diet. Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disese in which the body inexplicably attacks itself. Type 2 diabetes is treated and cobtrolled by diet but is not caused or triggered by it, except in as much as overweight is a major risk factor. There are no foods, including meat, that increase your chances of type 2 diabetes.
As for cancer – A diet high in red and processed meat is a known risk factor for colorectal cancers; such a diet is also thought to be a possible risk factor for stomach cancer and a diet high in meat and fat may be a possible risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Note the words ‘possible’ and ‘may’.
That’s pretty much it for the recognised possible links between meat and the 200+ diseases that come under the umbrella title of ‘cancer’
And a risk factor isn’t a cause; ‘being male’ is a recognised risk factor for having a car crash, but being male doesn’t cause car crashes.
Vegans and vegetarians develop cancer at pretty much the same rate as other people.
I know more than the average non-medical person about this because I have developed both diseases – cancer and type 2 diabetes. I have been a vegetarian for most of my life and a vegan for 13 years.
All I’m doing here is suggesting that you don’t repeat unproven and unsubstantiated health claims for vegetarianism. There are enough good things about it, we don’t have to make them up
vegetarians live longer
are healthier
um… i dont know
look up on google vegetarin health benefits
and help the environment by… i forgot but some one else on this page said something about it
sorry i know this is a horrible answers but i hope you write a good paper and convince someone to be vegetarian
the organizations that "help" and "support" Vegans and Vegetarians, the difference between Vegans and Vegetarians, The different reason why: Health benefits, animal rights, allergies to meats, and/or meat products. the companies that make the food, ie. Morning Star Farms, Boca, Amy’s Kitchen (Yummy…) Moroccan Star… Maybe get in some interviews from Vegetarians. There are some religions where it is against the beliefs of those who participate to consume animals. Also you could include the narrow-minded people that think that not eating meat is retarded as an opposition and include an interview, if you don’t get shouted at first. (btw I’m not one of them, I’m a vegetarian myself) Also one very vital thing that you probably should include is the different types of Vegetarians. There’s Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians, which are the ones that don’t drink milk, and don’t eat eggs, or yogurt, and don’t eat ANYTHING that was even so much as cooked in with a part of an animal, such as Ramen, which contains Chicken Fat. Pesce-Vegetarians , eat fish, but not Chicken, or any meat, besides fish which technically isn’t a meat. Strict Vegetarians, or VEGANS, don;t eat ANYTHING that even has to do with an animal, if it was an animal, or came from one they don’t eat it, only plants. And no there is no such thing as a steak tree, for those who will tease about what I have said. Anyway, good luck hope this helps, if you need anything, E-mail me.
There’s also Veggie Burgers, whcih are often refered to as Garden Burgers, and they are also delicious, and come in many different flavors.
Oh one last thing, Tofu can be turned into anything, for major holidays there’s Tofurky, which is a Tofu Turkey, that looks like a Turkey, but comes in different flavors, such as Garlic and Herb, or roasted rosemary, and Parmesan cheese
Like I said, Good Luck!
