What Is your reason for becoming vegetarian?

I have eaten meat all my life, however in recent years have become more open to the arguments of why vegetarianism may be the way to go. I am a lover of all things, especially animals and there have always been certain meats that I refuse to eat. Now I am considering cutting out the more general meats as well such as chicken and beef, because of my belief that we should not decide what lives and what dies. I am wondering why other people have decided to make the switch?

Because of this: you get one shot at life, as far as we know. How long do most animals live? About 10-15 years, averagely. One shot at life, and within sometimes about a year, lights out. Gone. No freedom, no running in the lush green fields without a care in the world. Instead, they spend their last few minutes trapped in a dark, cold cage, hung by the hind quarters, drained of blood and skinned, their soul still intact. What does this tell you? Do you dare to tell me this is right?

when i was 12 my mom took to me to a butcher along with her then when i saw the cruelty done to animals i decided to become a vegetarian. my family supported me when they came to know cutting of meat is somewhat healthy considering fat and health problems so its going fine for me right now and Now I’m 18 with no ‘stomach problems’ at all

I am in the (slow and difficult) process of becoming vegan, myself. I’m doing it for pretty much the same reasons you’re thinking of. I love animals and I don’t want to consume products which are a result of animal cruelty. I also learned more recently of the environmental factors, and how the meat and dairy industry contributes more greenhouse gases than the transport industry. I had already made up my mind, so that was just more of a bonus.

Can I just suggest if you’re making the switch for humane reasons, consider cutting dairy out of your diet. Dairy and veal are a product of the same industry. To produce milk, cows need to give birth, and the babies need to go somewhere. To maximise profit, the babies are sent to veal factories. So effectively, by buying dairy products, you are supporting the veal industry.

People often say that they become vegetarians because they love animals. But I don’t think you have to especially like animals to be appalled at the way they are treated in the meat industry.

I am a vegetarian because of the cruelty of the meat industry. Not only so they kill animals that should get a chance to live a full life but they don’t even allow the animals to eat food that is native to their species and live in cramped, dirty quarters, all for the sake of a profit. Then there are the animals that they keep alive just to subject to constant cycles of pregnancy for the sake of getting milk and eggs. It isn’t fair to the animals
