I get criticized about being a vegetarian every day! Every one says "but meat tastes so good." or "God put animals on Earth for us to eat." I am a vegetarian for animal rights and I don’t always know what to say. What do you use as an argument?

I always tell people that, being the smartest animal on the earth (a human!), Ive made the rational decision to NOT eat other things which feel pain. They will argue that other animals eat other animals, but I always revert to the fact that as humans we are way more intelligent and are not savages. We mastered agriculture almost 1000 years ago, and it is no longer necessary to eat meat to be properly nurished.
Just play the "vegetarians/vegans are smart" and "meat eaters are stuck in the past" card.
I just say I prefer not to use my body as a graveyard for decaying animal flesh-that usually shuts the argument down cold turkey.
as a vegetarian, I know it can be difficult. I get criticized for not eating burgers where I work, but you just let them say what they want. If you really want to argue, look up facts about vegetarians, or better yet, when they are overweight from eating greased up burgers, you can laugh at that.
Tofu and Soy are some of the healthiest things to eat…you can always make something that has that in it, and see if they would try it.
I don’t want to argue with them, so I just say, "You eat what you want and like to eat and I’ll eat what I want and what’s good for my body"
i just tell people it’s a matter of opinion, different people like different things. people like different music, movies, books, so people like different types of food as well.
I don’t advertise that I’m a Vegan thats why. No arguments ever come up. If I go out I order something non meat. Nobody ever asks questions.
I don’t try to gross out people by saying, "How could you eat the decaying flesh of a mortal animal? One of gods creatures. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!! TO HELL WITH YOU!!!!" I really don’t give a crap what people eat. I eat what I eat. They eat what they eat.
If they want to argue the God angle you can always tell them Jesus didn’t eat beef or pork or poultry. The animal eating thing is more cultural than anything else. I.E. A dog is a pet in the Western world but some countries consider it a delicacy While Many countries eat meat from a cow there are countries where cows a revered as sacred.
Since you are a vegetarian for ethical reasons you can always say that you don’t want to choose which animal lives or dies.
I too don’t advertise my eating habits but there are situations where it does come up.
hmmm, I say, "Leave me alone, a**hole" LOL
no really though… I usually just try to ignore when people do that (sometimes I do argue with them to defend myself, only when they push me to a certain point)
If you let it bother you, you are gonna go crazy… people have their opinions and most of the time there is nothing you could do or say to change that. Trying to will just drive you crazy.
So yeah, try your best to ignore…
I tell them about decaying animal flesh….why not just eat humans, too??
Also – the smell of chicken bones in the garbage the next day after you have thrown some out.
The diseases that animals have that can be eaten by humans.
Those are the top three
Just remember, it is not only important on what you say, but how you say it.
Give them well researched answers from unbiased sources and purvey the message in a calm, cool, organized manner. Even when the person you are debating the subject with gets agressive or unraveled, remain calm. You may not convince that particular person, but you might get better respect from the peers around you.
Afterall, what would you believe, the rantings of an apperantly irrational person or the calm words of a person who seems wise beyond their years?
tell people that you observe Kosher dietary laws therefore don’t eat any non-Kosher meat products without getting into further discussions about philosophy of vegetarianism and veganizaton – as there always can be an argument that tomato-juice is in fact actual blood of baby tomatoes
Most people around me are supportive about it, they ask how the hell can you live without meat. I just say it’s my choice and it’s healthy.
