What are some tips on becoming a vegetarian?

I decided yesterday to become a vegetarian, but I need some tips. I already don’t eat pork (bacon, ham..etc..) I don’t eat seafood or fish. And lately I haven’t been terribly fond of beef. But I love chicken. Is it possible to be a vegetarian and still eat chicken occasionally? Please help, I really want to do this for health reasons, but I don’t know how to get started. Thanks :)

If you’re only being a vegetarian for health reasons, then eating poultry once in a while is perfectly okay, but you would only be called a semi vegetarian, since chickens are still animals. Health wise, poultry isn’t bad, just go for white meat. However, if you were doing this for ethical reasons, you probably shouldn’t eat chicken, as they are abused just as much as other animals. All things considered, it’s really your choice.

    Hello.
Firstly I want to congratulate you on your decision! I have been a vegetarian nearly all my life and have loved it.
Here is a Youtube clip I found which gives you reasons why to be a Vegetarian –

You can get Quorn chicken which tastes just like real chicken but nicer =P and it is cheaper! =]

I tried becoming a vegetarian once. I loved it too, but my family didn’t support it so the transition didn’t really happen. There is a lot of vegetarian information on Peta, I think. They sent me a free booklet and everything. Also Morning Star brand foods are good. They are in the frozen section of the grocery store. And Boca burgers. They are awesome too. Good luck!!

A chicken is an animal so you wouldn’t be a vegetarian when still eating chicken occasionally, but a flexitarian or semi-vegetarian.

If you do choose to become a real vegetarian there are several ways to start.

You can replace all your meat with vegetarian versions.
You can slowly decrease the amount of meat you eat over time.
Or you can try to stop eating meat completely at once.

It might be a good idea to sign up on a forum for vegetarians. People share information and recipes there and can further help you.

    Good luck!

go to http://www.vegetariantimes.com. They have soooo many recipes and there own mag you can subscribe to. Also, they have a chart of a whole bunch of foods that you can replace. Then on the left side click "vegetarian starter kit." I HAVE to eat chicken occasionally cuz my best friends mom is VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY italian and wont lemme not eat it. i get scared and think she will hit me so i give in. but she knows chicken is my limit. usually she makes me stir fry w/ tofu but she sometimes gets really fed up and pushes me to eat it. so yes on occasiona you can eat chicken.

It’s definitely NOT possible to consider yourself a vegetarian and still eat chicken..

But I do STRONGLY recommend the book "skinny b!tch".. its only like 9 bucks, and tells you everything you need to know on going vegetarian/vegan. it gives you meal ideas, lets you know why its better for you, just everything.. it will really change your life for the better..

Watch Peta’s Meet Your Meat video. This is what made me a vegetarian. Warning, it is extremely graphic, but if you are going to eat meat, you should know where it comes from and what the sliced up dead animal on your plate went through for you to eat it. If you watch it, and I’m almost positive you won’t want to eat chicken anymore.
