Vegetarians: Do you think you becoming vegetarian has enhanced your choices of food?

Vegans, vegetarians, former Veg’s., etc

When I wasn’t vegetarian even though I was curious about foods and wanted to try a lot I didn’t notice a lot of the foods I notice now. They’re far tastier then meat-related foods.

Certainly, yes. On one hand, you are restricting yourself from eating certain foods, but on the other hand, it means you have to try new foods, ones that you would not have ever normally eaten. And I think beans, vegetables, etc taste WAY better than meat, anyway.

I would have to say yes! I didn’t really pay attention to what I was eating before. Well, I knew what I was eating but wasn’t aware of ingredients and health benefits of what I was eating.
Being vegetarian has widened my food knowledge and choices. I make meals more as opposed to pre made things, I eat healthier foods, and i’m always aware of what’s in my food.

yes AND it has cut down on unhealthy groceries like Little Debbie snack cakes and Doritos

Actually it reduces their choices. I can eat everything a vegetarian/vegan can eat plus more that they can’t. But I still believe its their right to eat what they want.

    Yes.
but i think its self fulfilling prophecy.
ppl who.. decide to become vegetarian.. are people who are branching out . as a personality type they/we are probably more open to trying new foods in general . thats what i think. being vegetarian and trying new foods is from the same place.
and dont throw bourdaine in my face what a wackjob he is i think he likes trying new foods just to see how many species he can dominate. :)

It doesn’t give you extra choice, but it usually does give you a more open mind and more motivation to explore the choices you do have.

Most definitely. I have much more of a varied diet now. Food is actually fun now = )

I grew up in a country where vegetarianism is a way of life (India). Getting vegetarian food there was never a problem..In fact, it is taken for granted that you get the kind of vegetarian food you want anywhere you go. But after I came to the US I realized how hard it is to find vegetarian food wherever you go. For ex, in most places the only vegetarian food you get is some types of raw salad! For someone who always eats a full meal consisting of appetizers, entrees and desserts-all vegetarian, its quite a change having to fill yourself with just some raw shredded veggies. So for my likes, its definitely hard being a vegetarian though I think the options are expanding :)

    nnhh, probably not no
id say nowadays its nearly the same, but its always been, still is some, less than vriety than meat eaters

they are tastier, and i eat pretty much only home cooked foods and rarely tv type dinners, so its healther for sure, but more varied, i dont think so no

I found the same to be true when I went veg. I stopped thinking of meals as meant centric, and it opened my eyes to so many more options. My food is way more varied now then it used to be.

Yes, I have expanded and enhanced my diet since I quit meat and dairy. Fact is, if you are vegetarian or vegan, and you don’t want to eat nothing but packaged veggie burgers and mock meats, you need to learn to cook, and this will inevitably lead to discovering new foods, ingredients and cooking techniques.
