Veganism is tedious and time consuming

When non-vegan journalists do a report on veganism, expect a relay of stereotypes. Expect to pinch the bridge of your nose to force your eyes shut, hoping it will all just go away.

Is veganism tedious and time consuming?

The public already has their preconceived notions of what being a vegan entails. So it doesn’t help when a news magazine pulls a stunt like putting the spotlight on an individual with a certain disease (an event happening constantly and to all types of people) while labeling them as a “vegan” (rather than, you know, a “person”) it pushes back our efforts to dispell the storm of outrageous myths keeping intelligent people from joining a non-violent movement.

I couldn’t help but pass along just such an article, “Vegetarianism has become mainstream, is vegan[ism] next?” Okay, stop. What? Vegetarianism is mainstream? Why didn’t anyone tell me this? Nevermind that, tell me why vegans are getting chance in the spotlight:

…until vegans came along, with their laundry list of taboo foodstuffs.

The world might possibly be a better place if everyone adhered to such a philosophy. Unfortunately, it is tedious and time-consuming, even more so than vegetarianism was back when one could starve to death in a restaurant by trying to avoid meat.

I guess there’s no explanation. Not that we could expect that much from an author who views a lifestyle of non-violence as merely a “laundry list”* of foods one shouldn’t eat.

From the horse’s mouth

Truthfully, vegans such as myself enjoy busy, on-the-go lives all over the world, small and big cities. We don’t partake in the consumption of animals in any form, as his copypasta of the Vegan Society correctly mentions, because we recognize industries who use animals for food, clothing, chemicals, labor, entertainment, etc. as institutions of slavery where an animal’s worth and welfare is determined by their value to human beings alone.

Like any diet or lifestyle change, it can take time and effort but that’s what life changing is all about; we should put this effort into positive changes so we can life comfortably, in peace with who we have become. Veganism doesn’t need to be tedious nor time consuming.

I’m sorry to negatively report on a fellow journalist, especially when they’re attempting to write positively(-ish) about veganism but when you misrepresent a lifestyle of non-violence, I have a job to do. Finally, the author ends with what has to be the worst vegan recipe I’ve ever seen: Green bean, pecan, and pomegranate salad. The dish is made with olives, onion, pomegranate seeds, green beans, and pecans. I don’t know, doesn’t make my mouth water especially when it’s topped with “pomegranate molasses.”
