Thinking about becoming a vegetarian?

I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. Can anyone tell me the benefits of becoming a vegetarian, and how to start? Is it a slow process to become a vegetarian? Or can you just change you diet all at once? Thanks! I really appreciate any information and advice.
I’m doing it for health reasons.

Kudos to you for thinking about going vegetarian!

Ok, first thing. I cannot guarentee you super-health once going vegetarian.
You need to eat the right things, which isn’t hard.

I’m assuming you live as an adult, so this is good. Go grocery shopping. Get a whole-lotta fruits and veggies. Pick out new ones as you see them, try them, if you like them, buy more!
There are several kinds of Vegetarians.

    1)Eats eggs but not milk
    2)Drinks milk but no eggs
    3)Does both.
    4)Neither(vegan)

Make sure you read ingredients on foods. Do not eat gelatin *animal bones, connective tissue, etc

If you’re a teenager who lives with his/her parents, tell them about your choice. I did this and the next day they brougt me to stores to pick out my vegetarian foods. They are supportive.

Veggiepatch and Lightlife make great "fake meats."
I eat these, but not because I LOVE meat and am terrified of not eating meat, I eat these products for protein.

Almond milk, soy milk, rice milk. Delicious! Get any kind you want! They are dairy-free!

Tofu!!! I LOVE tofu, it tastes DELICIOUS if you cook it right! There’s 5 kinds of tofu, silken, 2 others, firm, and extra firm. I always get firm, i don’t know the other 2, sorry. Look for recipes on youtube for tofu. It’s good!

-Instead of white breads, choose whole-grain! It’s better and more delicious!

*side note* Meat-eaters will question you. They might make fun of you, but, it’s your choice. Just because they’re ignorant *some of them* doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cope with it.

*EDIT* Sorry, forgot to say. Since you won’t be getting meat protein, eat what I said above, tofu, fake meats, and also beans and nuts!

that’s really all I have to say, good luck!

If you want to do it because of the animal cruelty etc, there’s really no point. You’ve already eaten meat so far in your life, nothing will change because you stop. Killing and eating animals is a natural part of life that’s been going on forever, but I just think they could try to kill the animals in a more humane way.

You could chanqe your diet all at once or you could chanqe it slowly, up to you.

Swap cow or qoat milk with soy, rice, hemp or almond milk.
Swap meat with morninq star, bocca products, lentils or tofu.
Swap normal cheese with rennet free vegetarian cheese.

Make sure to qet enouqh of everythinq, carbs, protein, iron, vitamins and minerals. Maybe take some supliments as well if you are concerned?

Avoid gelatine (it’s hard I know).

Lentil burgers taste very similar to hamburgers. Lentils and rice arabic dish (look on google for recipe) has simple ingreditents, tatses qood and is qood for you !

    Good luck (:

Well you’re not supporting the people in the slaughter houses that harm the animals for no reason at all, that’s for sure. You can maintain a healthy diet without the eggs, meat and dairy. You don’t actually need any of these to be healthy. You can eat plenty of veggies, take multivitamins, eat fruits, nuts, whole grains, tofu/protein in pb, soynut butter, fake meats etc.. You might go through a detox period only because your body is getting used to the change and getting rid of the garbage in your body. You may see that your acne went away or you have more energy etc..

You may be doing this for health reasons but just take into consideration what these animals go through to get someone’s precious burger or steak etc.. Or someone’s eggs and milk. They go through hell.

You can go cold turkey or do it slowly. Cut out a different meat (including birds and fish) every week and then stop eating it. Or you can go cold turkey like I did. There might be detox symptoms though.
http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-ingredients.html is a list you want to look at even though you’re aiming at vegetarianism. Myself as a vegetarian I do read these ingredients and try to avoid by products as much as possible. Also, whenever you get cravings for any old food you once ate just do your best and ignore them.

i went cold turkey which is easy to do when you watch slaughter house videos. and i stopped drinking milk. this was easy for me too and iused to drink a gallon in a few days. Remember we are born vegan.

it is up to you on how fast you want to achieve your goal. to help you.. try any non meat chicken nuggets or patties.. they taste awesome and my son still doesnt know.. he is 17. :)

you will have our support here and we can help you. i would be glad to tell you my daily food choices if that will help you. I am not a chef so keep in mind i am just someone that has an imagination when it comes to food and i LOVE spices.

Before you do become a vegetarian I think it would be best to research about being vegetarian a little bit before you actually do become one. I remember when I was a kid I was thinking about being a vegetarian for a while and one morning I just woke up and said "I’m not going to eat meat anymore!" And that was it. lol But I think I should have read some books or something about the topic because for a while all I was eating was carbs which as you probably know is very unhealthy. Make sure you get the right amount of protein each day. Also eat alot more of fruits and vegetables. Eat things like stir-fry, tofu, chick peas, tempeh etc. on a regular bases. Benefits of becoming a vegetarian? Well, vegetarians have a much lower cholesterol, then meat eaters, have less a risk of heart attacks, diabetes, cancer etc. and also I find you just feel better about yourself! I don’t feel bloated after every meal and always have lots of energy. I hope I helped you on becoming vegetarian!

Going vegetarian "for health reasons" is like going on any other fad diet. If you’re only interested in health, you can restrict your dairy and meat intake and achieve the same health results since most people eat far more animal protein than they need. At the same time, an omnivore gets nutrients that are harder to get in a vegetarian diet. Study this because it’s not as simple as most vegetarians would lead you to believe and that’s because most are doing it because of "ethics" and not health. Humans are omnivorous. Human vegetarianism is unnatural.

  8. snuggle wuggle says:

The greatest benefit is that you are not eating dead animals. It’s also easier to maintain a healthy weight and you lower your risk of heart disease and some other diseases and food-borne illnesses. Vegetarianism is also more sustainable.

You could become vegetarian right this second if you want to do that. Or you can slowly ween yourself off meat while you get used to eating and cooking vegetarian. Do what works best for you.
