Thinking about becoming a vegetarian?

I was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice about becoming a vegetarian. I want to become one but my family says "You’ll never be able to do it" But I am really serious about it. So if you have any advice please let me know!

Thank you!

Don’t doubt yourself at all, and don’t give in. If anybody tells you that eating out will suck, tell them to shove it, because there are so many substitutions you can put in for meat. For instance beans is an awesome substitution. Be proud of your vegetarianism. Boca burgers and boca chicken nuggets and vegetarian hotdogs are the BEST and they taste WAY better than the real thing. I recommend learning about the negative effects of meat on your body, because there are some people out there who will try and argue with you about your vegetarianism, and you need to be able to back yourself up. Anywho, good luck. I’m proud of you. :)

u could possibly do it but its gonna be hard. and u also kno that u must (u dont have to) eat real meat once in a while because your body needs it. u can live off of eating everything but meat but u wont be very healthy jus eat some meat once in a while to balance ur body health out

ive been vegetarian all my life, and there are so many alternatives to meat, like Quorn. im not sure what its like to change from eating meat to not eating meat, but i went from vegetarian to vegan, and it was hard to start off with, but it gets so much easier once you get used to it, in a sort of routine. also, look on the internet for vegetarian recipes, there are so many that taste great, and becoming vegetarian wont make you unhealthier, as you still get all the key nutrients etc :)

I never thought i could become a vegetarian but my boyfriend is one so i kinda got used to it. For dinner we would have things like…

    Veg curry and rice
Pasta in sauce with garlic bread
    Chips and beans
Noodles with stir fry veg – get loads or different sauces
    Veg fajitas

Its actualy been proven that vegetarians are healthier than meat eaters because they arent taking ing the same amount of saturated fat.

You should go for it. Did you know many famous philosophers such as Benjamin Franklin, Socarte, Albert Einsten, Mahatma Gandhi etc. were all vegetarian.

Millions of people are vegetarian, so there’s no reason why you can’t do it. Prove your family wrong! :D

My advice is build a good collection of vegetarian recipes. Some are really easy to make. Every day make sure you eat some foods with protein and iron. If you eat mostly healthy stuff you should get all the nutrition you need. You can go vegetarian all at once or you can do it over a period of time by reducing how much meat you eat. Some people crave meat at first, use imitation meats if that makes it easier.

I had tried it a few years ago, but i simply did not have the commitment. I think that’s because I was just following the trend at that point. My friend wanted to try it so I told her I would to. I didn’t even last a week.
Then last year, my views on animal cruelty were solidified and I got into an argument about hunting with a hall-mate of mine. The next day at the dining hall, I saw the chicken and just couldn’t even consider eating meat anymore. It just kind of happened and I am definitely proud of my choice. So if you are strong enough in your reasoning, then it should come easily to you. You wouldn’t even want to eat it anymore.
So, if I could do it that easily, you shouldn’t have any problems. Sure, my whole family didn’t support me in my decision but they just don’t exactly understand and sooner or later, they’ll come around.

I also recommend Quorn products. The chik’n breasts taste exactly like chicken and you can grill them and make quesadillas! A lot of vegetarian "meat" products taste exactly the same, actually.

What type of ‘vegetarian’ do you wish to become? I know strange question.
A ‘Lacto-Eggo’ vegetarian eats milk and egg products, but no flesh.
A ‘Vegan’ does not consume any meat or any product coming for an animal.
A ‘Whole food’ Vegetarian doesn’t eat any processed food.

Decide what you want to put in your body. It is your body! don’t let anyone tell you what to put in it.

The best way to start, is to read labels. And keep asking questions.

well, if you want to be a vegetarian you shouldn’t pay mush attention to what others say otherwise you’ll fail ;) my parents never said I WONT be able to do it but because my father is a doctor he felt free to kill me shouting out remarks like "you wont live to 30 years without meat"…ooh…:D well I didn’t listen to him"completely", I eat meat very rarely but I DO eat meat anyway and Im so relaxed about my health , Im at no risk :)
I have studied a lot about nutrition needs of human body and I know that we do NEED the kind of protein that comes from animals , BUT, most people eat FAR TOO MUCH meat in their diets…like…lemme see…could you imagine yourself as a human born a million years ago? in that time, all you could get to eat was fruit, vegetables, nuts and stuff like that ;) a case of "hunting" was actually rare ! so ,if you mind paying attention to nature we’re supposed to eat very little meat every now and then (maybe once every two month?) to keep healthy, so I believe ONLY vegetarian people are doing the right thing :)
you say your serious about it , it’s very good , and quite enough, you’ll just need a few pushes to get on the road . as others have mentioned you can search recipes or… you can eat much easier than that ! as I do…I don’t cook my food ;) I eat raw and I’m glad I don’t lose any vital vitamins in my food :P
I don’t know if I’ve done any help or not but I wish you a good luck because I praise your decision :)

If you want it bad enough, you can do it. I tried once and failed miserably. And then one night I just decided to do it. It’s almost 7 months later and I am still a veggie and love it. Just do what you like and don’t let people talk you out of your decision. It’s your life and you can do whatever you put your mind to.

Also, the "Meet your Meat" video on youtube had a huge impact on my views. You will be vegetarian for life.

    Good luck :D

great, being a vegetarian makkes you healthier. it is also good for animals, and there are easy ways to do it. i am a vegetarian, and even though i only have been for a week, it is easy. you can eat meat on holiday, i could never dream of missing out on turkey on thanksgiving. there are things better than meat, like fruit salad, tofu, grapes, cheese, cupxcakes, grapes, vegetables, and tufu can replace any meat pretty much. go to allrecipies.com and there are great recipies for vegetarians. peta.org has good recipies too, and reasons to be vegitarian. next time you want to try meat (except on holidays.:)) think of this picture:thttp://www.thedjlinkdomain.co.uk/pictures/cute/cow.jpg

    Do it!
I think if my family were less supportive it would make me all the more determined to prove them wrong.
That’s what you should do, so that a year from now you can be all "AHA! In your face!"
4 years since I went veg and people still laugh at me and call it a phase. I hate that.

    Anyway.

As for tips: well that’s quite a broad request. If you are looking for any specific advice then email me anytime – watchthisjoey@hotmail.co.uk

    Good luck :)

It was hard but this is how I did it.

I set a date. And for the first month I cut all meat out except fish.
Then one month later I cut out fish.
I gradually replaced it with boca burgers, fake chicken and fake meats.
They taste similar and are way healthier.

Ova lacto was easiest for me, But I may eventually cut that out too and become vegan. I think the most important thing is to set a date and stick to it. And if it get’s hard or you are tested look up facts about vegetarians that will help you. Or how they slaughter the animals.
