start experimenting with different vegetarian recipes now so that when you decide to give up meat entirely you’ll already have plenty of foods you’re comfortable with. do some research to find out what foods you’ll need to integrate into your diet to get the nutrients you need, and meet with your doctor or a nutritionist if you have special dietary needs (i.e. diabetic). learn as much as you can about where you can get nutrients like protein, because you will be asked a lot of questions about how you stay healthy. good luck!! you’re making the right decision.

You need to study and maybe talk to your doctor first. One can become severely undernourished if one becomes a vegetarian without knowing what they are doing.
If you are young…don’t do it. You need the amino acids and proteins only found in living tissue to grow properly. Stick to lean meats like fish and chicken.
If you proceed into vegetarian or veganism, you will need to find sources of protien that will supplement you. Tofu, mushrooms, rice and beans, rice and lentils or other pulses. These are good sources of vegetable protein. Follow Hindu dietetics…notice that they use a good deal of milk products as these are sources of animal protein and amino acid necessary to keep a body healthy.
You will also need to build a nutrient supplement profile to be sure you get all the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that you need to stay healthy.
Don’t take your conversion lightly…done carefully though, Vegetarianism is a good way to go to help you obtain all the phytonutrients and phytochemicals needed for natural cures to many chronic illnesses.

I am a modified Vegetarian similar to how you are going.
I find, as a tip, that if I use a lot of onions, spices, chilies, garlic, mushrooms, ginger, and aeromatic vegetables in my cooking, I not only stay on my diet by crave it!
If you start your dish with a base of peanut oil, onions, and garlic…you can make virtually any vegetarian dish taste wonderful.
Adding chilies and ginger gives added dimension to your dish that will enrich the flavor of all other vegetables you choose to use.
For spice profiles, try a combination of cumin and coriander for savory dishes and use cinnamon and cardomom to add a touch of perfume.
If you want want to add sweetness, try honey, a very good natural antibiotic by our buzzy friends.
Explore using yogurt. It is full of calcium, proteins, and amino acids and is an excellent carrier of flavor.
Remember your vitamins though!!

don’t listen to anyone who tells you not to go vego even if you are young. They generally have ulterior motives.
The only way to prepare to become vegetarian is to learn a few recipes. You can still eat vegetarian meals even if you are going to eat dead fish products in the meantime. The more you know about cooking a variety of vegetarian foods, the more likely you are to be healthy and happy with your diet.
Don’t worry too much about the protein myth, just make sure you get enough iron from eating green leafy vegetables etc.

The best way to stay vegetarian is to be committed. It is easy if you don’t see animals as food. Try reading up on animal rights: http://www.aact.org.au/index.htm
This page is an index of topics of interest, not only diet but also animal cruelty etc

First of all you should talk to your doctor or another health professional that you trust and know that will help you without being bias. Also it would be good if you knew a little bit about nutrition doesn’t have to be a lot just the basics about carbs, protein, vitamins, etc. Read the American Dietetic Association Position Paper on Vegetarianism. http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/adapaper.htm Another site that is helpful is this one: http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/veg_foods.html Download the booklet, it gives a lot of good tips. Best of luck!
