Is Vegetarianism considered a good way to beat bad PMS?

I have really terrible PMS every month for the last few years i have had to take days of school because its so bad. I have tried many different types of pain killers and that still take hours to work.
Before i try the pill, i was wandering if there is maybe a natural approach i can take.
Are vegetarians/vegens considered to have better periods?
Thanks,

    Not in my experience….
I have a couple of friends who are either vegetarian or vegan and I don’t believe it made an impact for them.
The only proven way to make a real difference is hormones.
Now – at this point, there is actually research showing that women who take the pill for a certain amount of time in their late teens to mid twenties have a lower risk for certain types of cancer (it increases the risk for other types, but the benefits outweigh the negatives).
The pill I’m on at the moment is Ortho Tri-Cyclen low – it’s a pretty popular pill and has a low dose of hormones only.
I can recommend it, but you should just sit down with your Obgyn and discuss your options. He’ll also be able to give you a better idea of alternative options than anybody on this message board.
For myself: I went from being out for two days with cramps and pain to having a 5-day, super light period and no PMS whatsoever.
The pill did not make me gain weight – in fact, it actually helped clear up my skin.
Now results are going to be different for everybody, but for me – the pill works great.
    Hope this helps a bit!

well i am a vegetarian myself for a year and a half.
and it hasn’t made any difference.
but vegetarianism is really affecting my body badly.
i wish i never made the choice of being one. =/

I’m a vegetarian and no it didn’t help my PMS to cut out meat. I have been using hormones for years and mine practically went away. There were times I couldn’t get out of bed so I was desperate to try something. Now, I have the occasional cramping but I don’t get the mood swings or anything nearly as bad as I use to.

You’ve heard of many medical problems being caused by eating animal products. Have you ever heard of any medical problems being caused by eating fruits and vegetables? Try it for a month, I don’t know how much of a difference it can make with PMS, but it sure won’t hurt.

You need to make sure you drink enough liquids..
    <coffee and soda aren’t considered healthy choices>
    .
And getting enough rest is very important too.

Do you take vitamins for women?

And when you know its that time…. drink extra water and watch intake of salt and sugar too.

it seems to run in my family to get really bad pains etc, but me and my sister have both been vegetarians since we were 8, and neither of us have ever experienced it.
so yeah, in my opinion, i suppose its true.
    :)
