I find most meat eaters very ordinary people but seem to find vegetarians quite outspoken against meat eaters. Is there more respect shown from the meat eaters to the vegetarians as opposed to vegetarians and their opinions on those who choose to eat meat?

Just trying to defend their choice of lifestyle. Personally, I don’t like meat, when I dine with someone I won’t make a big deal of it, just push the meat aside. But, yes, there are many outspoken vegetarians out there, who are on a mission. Especially vegans, who avoid all animal products out of conscience.
I prefer hanging out with vegetarians and vegans, which is why I visit this site, because then I could voice my outspoken opinions knowing I am with similar company, but when I’m with meat-eaters, I have respect for their choices, so I’ve learned to shut up around them.
(But that took over a year)
i’m a vegetarian and have been for a long time.
but i don’t force my own opinions on others.
all my friends and my family are meat-eaters.
i don’t care.
that’s their choice.
i think that the media just puts us out to be these extremly political people.
not all of us our like that.
I’m vegetarian.
And I have no problem with people who want to eat meat,
it’s their choice not mine.
It’s neither. It’s either a concern for the treatment of animals in factory farms, or an awareness that animal foods are not healthy for the human body. It certainly isn’t any kind of hatred for people who eat meat. I would guess that the majority of veg’ans are the only veg’an in their family, and in many cases, the only one in their circle of friends. Most of the people in the world are omnivores. Why would we dislike someone based solely on what they eat?
There isn’t any more or less respect coming from either side. I’ve been vegetarian/vegan for almost 17 years, and I’ve encountered just as many disrespectful people as respectful. I haven’t been disrespectful to any omni’s since around the time when I first went vegetarian. and I was an immature 15 year-old then, so that’s to be expected, really. :/
It’s funny for me because I don’t really like vegetables or fruits. I’m the Fanny Dooly of vegetarianism. I try to keep what I eat as varied as possible. I still do eat some fruits and veggies, just way not as much as I should.
I’m pretty sure meat eaters eat vegetables too.
I’m really not confrontational about what I eat. I’m not that type of person. I’m very shy, so I could never yell at somebody about it or try to act like I’m better then they are.

I am a vegetarian and have been for a long time. I don’t dislike people who eat meat and I don’t force my opinions on others. If they want to be unfit due to the antibiotics and growth hormones in meat then that is their choice. I have a variety of reasons for being vegatarian, I don’t like to see animals suffer for financial gain and meat was making me ill due to the antibiotics it contains.
im a vegetarian and i dont even like vegetables
im not some protester or tree hugger who tries to force others to conform to what i think is "right" and i do tolerate meat-eaters and maybe i could respect them as a person but i can not respect their choice to eat sumthing that was once a liveing breathing being capable of feeling pain …..and knowing full well where the meat comes from
everybody knows where chicken comes from. i mean its named after the Chicken, and people eat it right off the legs while its still on the bone and eating ribs is honestly sickening to me… how could somebody seriosly knaw at another beings ribs and still claim to be an "animal lover"
eating beef or a burger is even more tolerable then that because atleast its not named after a cow or a body part
and another thing why are so many meat-eaters willing to eat a cow but not a cat or dog or horse, if your a meat eater you should go all the way with it and eat every kind of meat. why limit yourslef to just cows ???

I am, to my knowledge, the only one in my family who is vegetarian. I get crap from them, but I generally keep my mouth shut about their diets. At least in my case, I think I show more respect than is shown to me. I generally don’t dis someone’s diet, especially not to their face. (If someone really gets on my case about the superiority of meat, I sometimes will raise my heckles, but never out of the blue.)
It should be freedom of choice and it works both ways. I try to respect and treat people how I would like to be treated.
There is so many personality types, it is hard to say one way or the other. I know from my experience, there is an acceptance as long as people don’t get hurt, then live the life you choose.
I don’t think there’s more respect from one group or the other. After all, this whole Vegetarian/Vegan section is crawling with meat-eaters that are just here to make a bunch of negative comments. Ask a question where you want to know what you should eat, or what you should do to make sure you get more protein, and you’ll get a bunch of people saying that you should eat a steak, some of which start talking about how stupid it is to be a vegetarian, etc.. One person posted a link to a site that actually said that vegetarianism is stupid, and the link also accused (joking or not) Einstein’s vegetarianism for the reason he died and didn’t make any new discoveries/theories.
This is just a problem with people, no matter their group. Republicans accuse Democrats of being outspoken sissies while Dems accuse Reps of hating people and the environment. Christians bash Atheists, Atheists bash Christians.
Instead of worrying about it, just let it slide.
There’s an equal amount of respect. I don’t know anyone who is outspoken about their veggie views or who thinks they’re superior to non-vegetarians. As someone who is the only veggie in their family I know perfectly well that non-veggies and veggies should be treated equally. We’re all human after all.
Vegetarianism is not a dislike for meat eaters, just a dislike of meat or the process of slaughtering/catching fish. Neither is it a love of vegetables, it’s simply a moral decision.
No, vegetarianism is a liking for animals I reck…
