No way you just have to eat healthy girl. If you don’t get the right nutrients you will fall apart
Being vegetarian is VERY different then being a normal eater.
I’m seventeen and I am vegan. I eat all the protein b12 iron & healthy grains & foods. If i didn’t it would be very dangerous!! You can’t go eating candy all the time like you would a normal person.
Vegetarianism is not a diet. It is a lifestyle. Don’t try to lose ten pounds with it because you are going to have to substitute meat anyhow so it doesn’t really make a difference if you are not for animal rights or health colon etc. issues.

    It’s fine for a thirteen-year-old to become a vegetarian.

Whether or not you lose weight and how much depends on what you eat. You can be a vegetarian and eat lots of ice cream and cookies. You can also be a vegetarian and eat lots of beans and lettuce.

If you are eating ice cream and cookies you aren’t going to lose any weight. If you are eating beans and lettuce you might lose some weight, but that depends on how many calories you’re eating overall.

If you’re planning on eating eggs or dairy everyday, you won’t have to worry about it not being healthy.

If you don’t plan on eating eggs or dairy, you will need to make sure that you eat beans or lentils on at least a daily basis, plus take a vitamin B12 supplement.

Edit: Contrary to what the other answerers are saying, most Western diets contain way too much protein. Worrying about getting enough protein is like worrying about getting enough fat–it’s not relevant if you’re not starving. As a lacto-ovo vegetarian you would get plenty of complete protein from dairy and eggs and plenty of incomplete protein from vegetable sources. (If you read up on protein, it’s composed of several amino acids. Animal foods like meat, eggs, and dairy all contain complete proteins, or those that have all the essential amino acids. Vegetable sources are almost always missing a certain amino acid. That amino acid is only found in beans, lentils, and animal products. If you were to go vegan, you would need to eat beans and lentils to get that amino acid.)

Vitamin B12 is only produced by a bacteria that lives in animals and is not found in vegetable products. People in undeveloped countries often get it from drinking contaminated water, but your water almost certainly doesn’t contain it, and you would need to take a supplement if you are not eating any animal products. (Dairy and eggs do contain vitamin B12, so the supplement is not necessary if you are eating them.)

There is no need to eat meat, and the consumption of meat has actually been linked to cancer.

A pescetarian is someone who eats fish and seafood, but does not eat other types of meat.

Yes, you can healthily become vegetarian at 13 years old as long as you make sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals still. Take a multivitamin everyday and do some research on what nutrition was in meat that you need to get (such as protein). I believe that you can lose weight this way because you won’t be getting all of the extra fat from meat. I’m not sure how much though. Good luck :)

At thirteen you really need to get protein from meat, cheese, eggs as well as soy and nuts. Your mom probably wouldn’t let you go so strict with your eating habits anyway.

Ten pounds in five to eight weeks is do-able, but only if you exercise and eat sensibly. Leave out empty calories like soda and chips. Don’t skip breakfast.

Just eat a little less of everything and keep your calorie intake below the recommended for your age, height and weight. Eat lots of fruit and salads.

Exercise. Drink your eight glasses of water to flush your kidneys and keep the fat moving through your body.

If you just want a healthier lifestyle and not to just lose weight…It’s not dangerous, but it might not be super healthy if you don’t have some good protein. A good alternative to mainstream meats for healthy protein would be seafood. Plenty of "vegetarians" eat fish because it’s a healthier source of protein than tofu or other plant-based foods.

If you go the vegetarian route, have some seafood as well!

For just losing weight, you don’t necessarily need to go vegetarian. You can research all sorts of great diets for losing weight fast without being unhealthy about it, and of course a good exercise routine is a must.

    no its fine
but youre not going to lose weight unless at the moment you eat like 2000 calories of meat everyday.
and its not healthy for a 13 year old to lose 10 pounds in like 2 months.

edit; if you want to be safe, pescetarian is the way to go.

I’m not trying to convert anyone to being a meat eater only health conscious. Starches, sugar, fruit do not promote weight loss, they do promote weight gain. As a vegetarian you need to be vigilant to meeting your protein requirements & you would need to know a great deal about nutrition and how the body processes foods. . I have major concerns about soy products effecting thyroid health. If you could add eggs to your diet, that would solve a multitude of problems. I wouldn’t try to dissuade you but encourage you to educate yourself fully.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter – add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" – have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese – pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad – steaks – a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

i became a vegetarian when i was 12. its a good choice that will help u lose that weight, just remember that when u dont have meat ur body can start to lack iron and protein. so take vitamins:) drink v8 or v8 fusion after working out or something. once u start, you will get really used to the routine of not having meat. and your body will adjust as well good luck!

Well if you like the vegetarian sort of people then sure, go for it, but at 13, there is so much of life out there, and food is an awesome way to learn about people and cultures. Carpe Diem.
