I’m interested in becoming a vegan/vegetarian?

Hello everyone I’m really considering becoming a vegan or vegetarian leaning more towards a vegan though. Is anyone a vegan and if so I do you feel health wise and do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Please no idiotic comments this is a personal choice and not an open forum for criticism.

Hey there! That’s great!! Awesome to hear :) & thank you for thinking about it! I became vegetarian at 14, even though I was anemic. At my next check my iron had doubled! (I dont know why). I became vegan at 21 and have since been pregnant and gave birth to a very healthy girl who is now 14 months and vegan. Humans are natural herbivores so by being vegan, your body will love you for it :) There is heaps of information on the internet so read up. Most importantly eat plenty of fruit and veg, add heaps of tahini (sesame seed paste) for calcium and beans etc for protein & dried fruits/leafy greens for iron. I only had to start taking an iron supplement in my third trimester of pregnancy and am now taking magnesium supplements as I am low – this could have been avoided by eating more nuts & seeds so make sure you eat heaps of those too :)
    Good luck and great choice!!

    PS
I feel great! & had an awesome pregnancy & easy birth :)

This is the internet, it is ALWAYS an open forum for criticism as well as idiotic comments, so here’s mine. What are you gonna do about it, throw a salad at me?

I’m a vegan and i feel great. i don’t get sick as often and i just feel better. my mom said my hair looks better (it’s been about 2 years) so i guess my veganism contributed to that (that’s the only thing that’s changed). good luck to you!

I was vegetarian for 4 years. In that time I lost alot of weight and began to look quite sickly.

If you do end up becoming vegan, please make sure you take multi-vitamins that are high in iron, as it may lead to long term anemia (low iron levels) and believe me you wont feel well at all if this happens to you.

Eat lots of leafy green vegetables and cut down on your caffeine intake as this blocks your body from absorbing iron.

Enjoy your new lifestyle, the animals will thank you :)

I am a nutritionist and a Flexitarian. I would suggest becoming a flexitarian or pseudo-vegetarian like me, especially for health reasons.

Vegetarianism and veganism being "more healthy" is somewhat a built up myth. As a flexitarian who eats meat or fish and eggs several times week, I feel a lot better with more clarity, eating healthy than i did before I eat any kind of way. Plus I’m not funding into the food Industries maniacal animal torturing. In fact, most people who become vegans and vegetarians do this because of their feelings for animals and respect towards a religion, over health.

Abstaining from essential vitamins and nutrients like B12 and protein can prove to be cause some health problems and proper brain function, while it is rather hard getting proper protein intake from fruit and vegetables alone.

I am not a vegan, but I am a vegetarian. I feel perfectly fine.

Rappers Common and Russell Simmons are vegans, and they’re perfectly fine.
Singers Erykah Badu and Brandy Norwood are vegans, and they are also fine.

The Key to being a vegetarian is to eat a balanced diet.

Boca, Morningstar Farms, Lightlife, and Amy’s kitchen are brands that sell vegetarian foods. They can be found at Pathmark, Stop & Shop, and other supermarkets. They sell vegetarian versions of almost every meat that exists, including vegetarian burgers, vegetarian chicken sandwiches, vegetarian ribs, and vegetarian deli slices.

Here’s the links to their websites:

Chinese restaurants sell sesame bean curd and general tso’s bean curd with rice.

A vegan diet is very healty. It is even healthier than a regular vegetarian diet, if done properly.

I’m a vegan and I have never felt better.

I think veganism must be good for the immune system, because I haven’t been ill since I started 2 years ago.

I recently learned that scientists have proved that the Roman Gladiators (who were raised to be well tough of course) were strict dietary vegans, so don’t believe any crap anyone tells you about protein.

Its up to you, but I say give it a go :)

    Good luck

i think that since you are leaning towards vegan you should start out with vegetarian. you need to get use to not eating meat. gradually take out different types of meat. if your underage, it will be less of a shock for your parents and they will get use to it easier.
if you do jump right to veganism then make sure you get enough nutrients and be prepared to read lots of labels.

I started out vegetarian because I was against killing animals for food but I didn’t have a problem with dairy because I figured the animals weren’t dying, but I was very wrong as I later found out. Factory farms are horrific and unnatural and nothing gives any creature the right to treat other living creatures that way. I went vegan about a year and a half ago and never regretted it. Don’t let people scare you telling you they got all sickly when they went vegan. Than just means they weren’t eating properly. You do need to make sure you eat more than salad but there are so many exciting vegan options out there. I discovered chocolate tofu recently and made a chocolate pie and it was soooo good. Also if you like sweets like cookies and cake and are worried about losing those or at least not being able to make them from a box- never fear! Cherrybrook kitchen makes great box mixes for cookies and cakes and really really good brownies with no animal products (it’s intended for people with allergies but w/e). As for ice cream- tofutti is the best! Tofutti also makes great cream cheese and sour cream. I really highly suggest veganism- it’s wonderful! You’ll be saving animals and the environment. Good luck!
