I am 14 and thinking about becoming a vegetarian. What are the pros and cons and is it hard to switch?

I love steak and veal and fish and alot of other meat, but I just love animals so much and I may switch. I need help! What are the pros and cons and what is most difficult about being vegetarian? Thanks for answering (if you did). :)

    Vegetarian Pros and Cons

A quick breakdown of what you really need to know.

    Pros:

    Contribute to solving:

-World hunger (it takes more energy to raise and produce animal meat than the meat itself provides)
-Deforestation (forests and rain forests are being cut down to provide grazing land for animals)
-Soil erosion (grazing animals that eat the grass strip the land and make it vulnerable to wind and soil erosion, thereby destroying prime agricultural land)
-Disease (vegetarian diets reduce the risk of heart disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, cancer…)

-It’s cheaper (dairy and meat products are expensive.)
-Vegetarians will not contract mad cow disease!
-It’s cool; (Albert Einstein was vegetarian, Paul McCartney of The Beatles is.)

    Cons:

-Meat tastes great and is filling.
-There may be some resistance and criticism from non-vegetarian family members.
-The Canadian Food Guide does not provide guidelines for vegetarians. Research must be done and attention paid to nutrition to avoid zinc and iron deficiencies, illness, anemia.
-It takes a lot of effort and creativity to avoid the boredom of salads.
-People get anxious and uptight when a vegetarian is invited for dinner.0000000000000000000000000

You should really do it. You’ll feel so much better not eating the toxic meat.
Just make sure you increase your beans, nuts, peanut butter…ect (all things that have lots of protein) intake. I can not stress how important having the right amount of protein is.
There are quite a few eating guides and recipes online to help with that.
Good luck! It’s totally worth it :)

NOOOoooooo Don’t do it! Pros= none
cons= brain deterioration from lack of protein

The Pros: (from what I hear) are quite substantial. Many people feel better about themselves when on a diet. If done properly, a person’s health and energy can increase. The reduced calories and cooking techniques when cooking meat can mean weight loss. There can be savings on the pocket book as well.

The Cons: The are two main problems with a vegetarian diet. First, there is the issue of protein. Nuts, beans, etc can add some protein but it usually isn’t enough, especially for men. This can be solved by taking meal replacement or protein supplements (assuming you aren’t vegan). The last con is just convience. It can become difficult and tempting when eating on holidays, or if you are invited to someone’s house. This is obviously quite minor.

The difficulty of switching is based on if you "really" want a change in lifestyle, and how much meat you currently eat.

There are no cons to eating vegetarian. The only potential problems you may have will only come if you don’t eat healthy.. but that also could happen if you ate meat, so it really isn’t a problem w/ being vegetarian.

Basically, the pros are that you will be healthier and feel healthier. You also will likely eat a wider variety of foods than you currently do, which is also fantastic. Who doesn’t like a little variety? And there are probly a TON of great foods you haven’t tried yet simply because you have been eating meat. It certainly like that for myself.

    1. It is awful what they do to animals in factories….read this blog to find out why(yes it’s boring but I’m 14, read it a few days ago, and switched from meat eater to vegan). It’s difficult if your parents don’t support your decision like mine..I have to buy my own food because my mom doesn’t agree. You’re saving animals, and with the right diet it is healthier.
