I am 13, almost 14. I have decided to go vegetarian, because i love animals, and don’t want to eat them anymore. The only problem is my whole family eats meat. I don’t think they would approve of my decision. Today was my last day of eating all meat. i will eat meat in very small portions until my mom buys tofu. does tofu taste good?

The taste of tofu sucks. It absorbs flavor from spices, sauces, or marinades it’s used in.
You are going to be doing a lot of cooking and eating! It takes a lot of veggies and fruit to fill you up.
I can see why the cook/grocery shopper in your home is upset. It makes more work for them. Unless you are going to take your allowance, make your list and hit the market.
It won’t be as easy as you think to change. When you hang out with your friends, who eat cheeseburgers, will there be a veggie burger waiting for you? Those veggie burgers in the markets are about 5 dollars for four.
But if it’s a conscious choice, I applaud you. Good Luck.
I used to be a vegetarian and my family did not approve. They ate steak ALL the time. Even now, ( I eat meat again), I still don’t like steak. My mom’s rule was, "eat what I serve or go to bed hungry!". I went to bed hungry many nights before they realized I was serious. At that age, they think you will ‘grow out of it’. Just do what you believe in, they will learn to accept it. Your mom won’t let you starve. When she knows you’re serious, she’ll by the tofu. I never ate tofu, I don’t like it. I worked around it.

I eat pasta, and pizza, and mac and cheese. You don’t necessarily have to eat tofu. I don’t know where you people are getting these dumb ideas!
Tofu is delicious. It is kind of bland and tends to take on the flavor of the dish it’s placed in. When your family orders Chinese, pick a dish with tofu in it.
You’ll probably like it. There are many recipes made with tofu. Look in the library, book store, or on the web. You’ll probably find those you like to make and eat. Some are AWFUL. I made a tofu lime pie (first time I tried that recipe I found in a book) for one Thanksgiving meal with my family. Afterwards, I threw the book away. Since that time, every once in awhile a family member will mention my tofu lime pie when they want to give me a bad time. I like the fresh soft tofu. It’s in a tub usually in the refrigeration case in an Asian supermarket. I buy the sweetened variety and spoon it into a bowl (like pudding) and put maple syrup over it. That makes it even sweeter. Sometimes I just put some sweetened soft tofu in a mug, heat it in the microwave and eat it plain hot. I really like it on cold days.
Why worry about your family? Its your choice and I encourage my girls to think for themselves. So don’t eat meat. How about fish? Tofu? NO! its over rated and trendy. Most people that eat it are shallow and don’t really like it, they just fake it to look cool. Anyway, so eat more salads.
Also, if you are going to do it slowly, do this; only eat fresh non-processed meat. Lean steak is a good example. Bacon is a bad example or pepperoni is a bad example. Tell your family that you’d like to eat more fish and kinda merge into more veggies and they probably won’t even notice.
