How to become vegetarian safely?

My friend is wanting to become a vegetarian, i"ve been vegetarian for a year now and she eats alot of beef like everyday or everyother day, she doesn’t eat chicken that about once a week. and she doesn’t eat pork, sea food, or turkey. mostly beef and chicken. she is wanting to become vegetarian safely without getting sick. i told her not to cut it out all at once cause i know that wouldn’t be god to her body. so she is going to cut out the chicken first then the beef. can i get some advise?? Thank you! :D

It’s up to her if she wants to go cold turkey or take her time. Her digestive system will adapt either way.

Most people go vegetarian or vegan overnight. I know I did when I went vegan the first time, and back to vegetarian this time. There is nothing unsafe about making the switch over night. As far as sick, she may have a little stomach discomfort from the change in diet, and she may have to deal with cravings, but sick I doubt.

Gradual is the best way to go vegetarian. There are a lot of ways to approach it.

One is to just go veggie one day a week, Monday is popular. Then she could expand it to other days. Another is to cut out meat from breakfast for a while, then expand to lunch time, finally cutting out meat from dinner. She could start learning new recipes that can have meat or be prepared meatless. This will make the transition smoother.

One more thing. I always hear that you are supposed to get a doctor’s advice before you make a radical diet change.

There’s nothing unsafe about cutting out meat altogether. I think that it would be more unsafe for her to continue eating as much beef as she does. Just make sure she does her research on getting proper nutrition. I think it’s actually easier to get a more balanced diet as a vegetarian rather than an omnivore.

I’m not vegetarian by any means, but I gave up all meat for Lent. I thought it would be difficult to do.
I did it overnight. I craved meat for most of the time but I had no stomach discomfort or health issues, even though I normally eat a lot of meat. Just tried to get a lot of protein in other ways because I’m a runner.
As soon as Lent was over I went straight back to being a carnivore. Mmm, tasty.
No problems, but you can do it gradually if it’s easier for you.
