The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has a Vegetarian Starter Kit which should answer most of your questions-

Don’t eat meat. Eggs, milk ect are fine.

There isn’t a way to just ‘become’ a vegetarian, it’s a choice you make, and with rules you set.

Most would consider a vegetarian not to eat any form of meat from fish to beef, and no food products which use animals in them, like sweets with gelatin in.

Some vegetarians are stricter than others, and it depends on the reasons you want to be a vegetarian but a site like peta2.com will have all the information you need with tips and advice.

To become a vegetarian, you just have to make the decision to stop eating meat. There are many types of vegetarian, but the main understanding is that you just eat vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and dairy.

-Ashley, I cannot believe you got 2 points for that.
Curry? You can’t eat curry? What is that?

To become vegetarian, first you must apply to the BOV (board of vegetarians) which is situalted in Vienna. They will listen to your claim and then a panel of elders will decide whether or not to let you in.

If you eat hardly any meat at all, then just avoid eating meals with meat in them. If you eat a lot of meat, then slowly cut down and use your calendar to track it. Make your own dinners (don’t count on your parents to feed you veg dinners every night) and keep track of how you’re getting your nutrition. Sometimes it’s hard for new veggies because they don’t know how to eat a nutritious diet, so they just cut out real food and exchange it for non-meat junk food. For example, if you usually eat a fish fillet with rice and beans, but want to go veg, a bad idea would be to eat cereal and twinkies for dinner instead. You need to learn how to REPLACE the meat with something real. Learn to cook, pick up a few how-to books, and you’ll be fine. Just keep the food pyramid in mind, and it’ll be great. You might even want to ask your doctor for advice, especially if you’re a teenager or younger. It’s not recommended to go veg if you’re under 16 because your body would still be growing, and if you don’t eat a healthy diet by yourself, you could stop growing and be short or have developmental problems. Your health is up to you, so you have to take really good care of your body and eat right every single day. If you don’t think you can do this yet, do some research and wait until you think you know enough about nutrition and vitamins and minerals before you make the big switch.

    Rules:
You can’t eat meat. This includes pork, chicken, turkey, beef, steak, hamburgers, fish, crab, shrimp, or anything else in the animal kingdom. Not sure if your dinner came from the animal kingdom? It can’t be a mammal (furry) a bird (feathery) a lizard (scaly) an insect (creepy) or a fish (swimmy).

You CAN eat dairy, eggs, cheese, yogurt, honey, etc.

Please DON’T use leather or furs. Wool is okay.

Gray areas: gelatin, cheese with natural rennet, silk clothing, products tested on animals, etc. These are up to you.
