Stop eating meat.
If you are 250lbs overweight like you say, you need to be under the care of a physician and a nutritionist. Sudden weight changes (leading to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance etc)can be dangerous for you.

There is no trick to becoming a vegetarian, just stop eating meat. A vegetarian who eats seafood is called a pescetarian.

I became a vegetarian cold turkey. The best way to do this is to read a book like "Slaughterhouse" by Gail A. Eisnitz. Even if you’re not naturally sympathetic to animals this one will make you feel like throwing up at the thought of eating meat.
You can become a pescatarian – which is someone who only eats fish. Most fish are naturally low in fat so it might be a good move if you don’t think you can go cold turkey.
Also, MorningStar Farms makes fabulous fake "meat" and most of them are low in fat.

eat fish or go lacto ovo. you really have to stop worrying about giving up those "delicious meals" and start worrying about your health. Eat soy products, use olive oil and margarine instead of butter and regular oil, eat low fat yogurt instead of ice cream! It’s really easy to become a vegetarian, All you need is a little determination. I also became a vegetarian cold turkey ( I prefer to say cold VEGE- TURKEY lol. ) It was really easy, because i love animals.

do you need to?
is meat consumption the effect of your weight (gain)?
what are the effects and the environment and other living things?
there are alternate ways of using weight. Eat a balanced diet 50% meat, 50% veggies.eat in moderation. eat only when you are hungry. chew you food appropriately, eat slow.
note; neither plants nor animals deserve any form of cruel treatment. when we alter our environment, it has effects on all living things. we need to be responsible and considerate of our actions.

Meats are actually not very flavorful, it’s the fat that makes it "delicious". You have a craving for fatty foods like so many of us do. The more greasy and buttery and dark a meat was, the more I craved it but you have to make a lifestyle change. I am in the process of reading " Being Vegetarian For Dummies" and it’s a great book. It talks about the many levels of vegetarianism (eating no animal flesh except for fish and no animal products except for cheddar cheese can be considered a type of vegetarian) There are no real rules. It also helps you to become one by going cold turkey (which I did) or slowly and gradually (which my husband did). It introduces you to new and healthy foods. Who would have thought that falafel burgers are better than boring ground beef burgers!! When you’re done w/ that read "The China Study" This book will actually make you scared to eat meat! You’ll see why meat is the #1 cancer causing agent–more than cigarettes and other carcinogens. (Get them online from half.com, amazon.com or a library)

The only way to diet properly is to diet and exercise. Eating vegetables may help you but a controlled balanced diet is what you need. Go to a gym and ask their advice. That is what I did and lost 4st.

i would start changing the way you think about food. I would start by reading books about nutrition. I find that it is a process. A process I am currently going through right now. You can’t do it overnight, and just because you are a vegetarian, doesn’t mean you will lose weight. If weight loss is your primary goal, nutrition + exercise = weight loss.

I think it is very very veryyy important to find substitutes that you like , like veggie burgers and the fake everything.
when I first went veg , I tried boca burgers and I was like yeah right im not eating this.
Try morningstar , they make amazing products , the chicken is great and the philly steak burgers are amazing.

There is no step-by-step process to become a vegetarian. It’s not a club. There is no such thing as being a "half vegetarian", either. If your going to be a vegetarian than it means you don’t eat ANY meat. Chicken is considered meat, although fish (if you still want to eat it) is not considered meat. Give it up cold turkey, because doing it slowly isn’t really doing it. Just make sure when you give it up that you still get protein!

As an intern with Meatless Monday, a non-profit that encourages people to give up meat at least once a week for health and environmental benefits, I’m thrilled to see that you are looking to commit to a meat-free diet. The website for Meatless Monday has delicious recipes with nutrition information so you can make sure you’re getting enough of the fibre, protein, and vitamins that you normally got from meat, while cutting the fat intake (featured this week: Cameo Herbed Potatoes http://www.meatlessmonday.com/cameo-herbed-potatoes/) For more on the campaign, check out the Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpnKeYmR1NM.
