Does becoming a vegan help u to lose weight?
I became a vegetarian 4 months ago and I’ve gained weight cause I eat too much bread and pasta and cheese. I really need to lose weight. I have 2 friends who are vegans and they are skinny-perfect.My mom is a nutrionist and said that it can be bad for teens (I’m 17) to be vegan but she doesnt give me the time of day so Idk why that would be bad, she didn’t explain. Would going vegan help me?

Being vegan is a start to losing weight, but only if you eliminate all the meat without replacing the protein. In other words, if you cut out that 25% of your diet then naturally yes you would start losing weight. But anyway. You should be consuming high-fiber whole grain bread products anyways and maybe limit to 6 servings a day. Maybe you’re having too much fat, perhaps? Being vegetarian or vegan does not promise weight loss because junk food is still out there.
I can understand why your mother would say that being vegan might be bad for teens. We are still developing and especially us females need a hecka lot of iron. Eliminating red meat automatically sets this challenge for us. Just be sure to take multivitamins and iron pills. If you are going to go vegan, make sure you still eat fresh produce and whole grains and plenty of beans and legumes for healthy protein and iron. Be extra sure that you are still getting enough to fuel your body, however. Even healthy fats are essential. It has been shown that healthy fats found in nuts and avocados actually encourage weight loss.

Going vegan is a bad idea. If you want to lose weight there many better ways. Do you exercise at all? You really should.

It doesn’t. The only way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you burn. Veganism won’t help you unless you’re consuming less calories than you burn. Even if you eat meat, you will lose weight as long as you’re consuming less calories than you burn.

It can be bad for anyone, if they do not eat right. It can also be extremely good for you, if you eat well.It depends on the individual.
Being vegan may or may not help you lose weight.Weight loss is about calories, if you are eating more calories then you need, you will gain weight.
I think you need to cut down on the cheese and carbs and exercise if you don’t already.Eat more vegetables, avoid fatty foods, eat only when you are hungry and such.

It sounds like your mom isn’t a very good nutritionist. 17 year olds can go Vegan with no problems, as long as they study what to eat.
Going vegan won’t automatically make you lose weight. Exercising and decreasing your calories consumed will.
If you want to go vegan, go for it. But, if your main goal is losing weight, use a computerized food journal to help you. It will tell you when you are eating too many carbs and fat and calories. http://www.fitday.com/

Keep it lowfat, varied, organic and fresh as possible. Limit high sodium, high sugar, processed, refined and frozen or canned foods. Your best friend should be the fresh produce part of the grocery store. Include green smoothies. Go to Barnes and Nobles and buy or order vegan cookbooks.
