Today I'm making a change in my life and a pretty big one. See I have a problem with fast food I love it . Alls I eat is burgers and fries I eat it almost ever day . But there's always been a part of me that hates the fact that I support these. Places. There's nothing good that comes out of them. I no mtons of animals are miss treated because of these places. So I want a change . The only problem is I'm not a veggie person. But I'm going to take each day one by one. I'm going to try new things and be better to myself . It might not last long but I'm going to try.

In a sentence:

"Fresh is Best".

I wouldn't bother with that Quorn cr@p if I were you.

Your choice though - and good luck to you.......x

I don`t like red meat either, I still eat fish and occasionally some chicken, I like salad, veg and fruit, unsalted nuts are good for you, if you are still bothered about getting enough nutrients why don`t you take vitamin tablets, the health shop will tell you about it

Pick yourself up a copy of "The New Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina. It's very thorough coverage of vegetarian nutrition. There's no nutritional value in meat that you cannot easily replace, but as long as you're making the change, it's a perfect opportunity to brush up on nutrition. Faux meats are a good source of protein, which is surprisingly abundant in the vegetarian diet, even without meat replacements. The B vitamins in meat can easily be gotten in a wide variety of plant foods (legumes, grains, nuts and seeds, in particular.) And you can get iron from dark green veggies, fortified cereals and breads, dried fruit, blackstrap molasses, nuts and seeds. Just aim for a variety of fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds and you'll do just fine.

truth is you cant eat healthy without meat. I should think you dont like meat because you have probably always bought it from the supermarket and probably over cooked it dried it out and made it tasteless. there are some substances in meat which are absolutley for human mental stability. check out some of the comments on here to verify my opinion. (especially the ones following my answer)

Do your research. Learn what's not vegetarian besides meat (i.e. gelatin, cochineal, animal rennet, carmine, etc.)
Read as much as you can and make an educated decision. There's more to being vegetarian than suddenly just wanting a cute little label. Educate yourself.

David: you say "the truth" is that you can't eat healthily without meat. You should take that up with the American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada. They both support vegetarian and vegan diets for all stages of life. If you don't want to be one, then don't. But don't spread misinformation on a subject you know nothing about.

MrBigs: B12 is only important for strict vegetarians and vegans (and even then not really, considering everything's fortified these days). There's an abundance of it in ALL animal products, that includes dairy and eggs.

Kudos!!!!!
Congratulations for your decision, hope it is for life.I
I was a pure non-vegetarian for 25 years,then became vegetarian for good...
Quorn is a mycoprotein,it is good source of protein...nothing other than that.If you still have eggs...its rich in protein.I assume you are not a vegan, just vegetarian...
Lentils, green leafy vegies, bright coloured vegetables and fruits are all that u need.
You may need to substitute protein by using soyabean in your diet in any form.

I went veggie for a few years but i ahd to stop because i discovered i had a dairy allergy and i couldn't cope being vegan. Good for you for trying.
I think quorn is fine. I lived off it for years and i'm still alive! Just make sure you eat plenty of fruit and veg and you'll be fine.

Just make sure you get a balanced diet
lots of nuts, beans and pulses to make up protein
+ eggs and cheese, if you're not going vegan.
You should take a multi B vit supplement as this is high in meat (or lot's of marmite)

Quorn is ok but not really that nutritious. You'd be better off eating Tofu.

I would suggest that you just don't cut meat completely out at once.. I think the best way to do it is to gradually cut down on meat, replace a few meals a week with beans and rice, or Tofu. There is a great site for recipes i found form someone on here : http://www.vegweb.com I always take a multi-vitamin every morning.. actually the prenatal vitamins have a lot of the great stuff you need already in them. Other then that.. you can get protean from beans and tofu.. All meat really does is sit in your colon... rot.. and then leave.. you can get everything you need in life without meat...

vitamin B12 is important-look at some vegetarian websites - most advise on this type of question-but you are right to avoid meat-it tastes rubbish and may produce health problems-and I quoting a medical doctor here,so no thumbs down please, idiots
