Becoming vegan?

I have been realising more and more lately that I dont want to eat animal products anymore, I have been reducing these so the things left in my diet now are, organic meat, free range eggs and milk.
My problem is how to get rid of these last things because althoug I readlly dont want animals to suffer I love the taste of meat and dont know what to replace it with ,also I don’t like soya or rice milk.
The eggs I will continue with since they are my chickens and I’m sure they dont mind me taking their eggs. They are free to roam wherever they want but they choose to stay in my field.

Well done on your progress so far.

I’m 43 and have been vegan for 3.5 years. The smell of fried bacon rashers made me have to eat something straight away when I first converted, but now – no problem. Tastes change over time – I didn’t like any brassicas until I was in late-20s, and olives until late-30s.

I know a vegan couple who eat eggs when they visit Hen Heaven – a sanctuary for ex-battery hens – see link.

The UK’s Vegan Society has a good wall-chart on vegan nutrition – see link.

There are other alternatives to soya and rice milk, such as quinoa, oat and almond – try a good health food shop. Also, you will find different brands taste different, and sweetened types (usually with apple juice) make a big difference.

If you are really committed to becoming vegan……..then do so gradually, it is a drastic measure.

May be you should become a veggie first of all as you dont appear to be quite ready to become a full fledged vegan yet.

if i were you i would try eating quorn, it isnt real meat but it still has the same taste

also if you were going back to eating meat make sure it is free rangemeat as the animals have more space and it isnt cruel

and if you think about it buying diary milk isnt killing the cow

If Jesus thought it ok to feed the millions with fish from the sea, why become a vegan.??

It sounds like the best thing for you to do would be to cut it out of your diet gradually. Become vegetarian first, then vegan.
Buy a few vegan cookbooks ( I suggest veganomicon, and vegan with a vengence) Then get use to vegan cooking, its a change, but soo fun, and you will learn about a whole new world of food that you never even knew you loved. Imitation meats, and veggies that have that "meaty" substance.
Trust me, I would have never thought I could have made it this far without meat, my favorite food was always steaks, and chicken.
But with tons of great recipes i dont feel like im missing out on anything. I highly suggest at least giving it a try. You’ll be amazed at how much you dont miss that stuff.
